know what keywords customers are searching for and then purchasing your style of product is actually very advanced so what we're frustrated with is a lot of our competitors tools what they were doing is they were just showing you other keywords like before or right after whatever your seed keyword is and instead the way that jungle scouts keyword search functionality works is the recommendation engine's really built off of what the customers are actually searching for so that's super cool now you might be saying okay why am i talking about doing keyword research or why is this important today we're going to be talking a little bit more about the rank tracker functionality and at the very core of tracking your ranks is all the different keywords so you've probably seen this before but this is what it looks like after you place a search so jungle scouts keyword recommendation engine smart enough to know that people search for s'more skewers and then end up purchasing marshmallow sticks or they search for s'mores kits or fire pit accessories or whatever else it's showing you all of

lot of you know i sell these bamboo marshmallow sticks i'm just going to grab their asin right here out of the url what i can do is i can then go to rank tracker and i'm going to add a new product i'm going to enter their asin and what's cool about this right here i have run reverse ace and search selected and when i go to next what happens is over here on the left hand side it's populating their top 50 keywords okay so jungle scout's smart enough to know what keywords that they're ranking for and then if i want i can go ahead and add more keywords to this list as well i could just type them right here in this box alternatively i could enter more asins of some of their other competitors and it would also pull in all the keywords that they're ranking for so let's go ahead and let's do that real quick so let me just go back and look at some more marshmallow sticks i'm just going to scroll down here just grab one of the competitors uh for this demo i'll scroll down to the product information section to

grab the asin i'm going to enter that ace in here and now what's going to happen is when i click save it's going to show me where this asin that i started with ranks for all these particular keywords okay so this is a really powerful thing just to star and this is a huge improvement from where we're at before because before you had to choose one of the keyword lists like i started the beginning of the webinar with whereas now jungle scout's actually smart enough to already know what keywords that they're ranking for so if you want you can start with just those so now what it's showing me is this is the acen that i selected this is my competitor that i want intel on i can gives me a little snapshot saying that they've sold 60 of these units on average per day over the last month and then i can see down here all the different keywords that they that i entered okay so these are all the different keywords that i want to know how they're ranking for and i can see that right here so i can see that you know for this one

they're ranked number seven which is on the first page i can also see which ones they're bidding in the sponsor products for and actually for this example they're not bidding on any of them i can also see things like the search volume and then some other cool stuff that i'll talk about a little bit more in a minute which is as far as which these keywords are in their listing or how hard it is to rank for etc so what i can do is i can choose which keywords that i'm interested in so i can select all the ones up to 10 that i'm interested out of this particular group i can hop over here and i can grab some other ones and it'll show me how they've ranked over time for all those different particular keywords now this is really cool because you can start to pick up on trends over time to see whether or not your competitors are trending up so they're ranking on a higher position for more keywords or whether or not they're trending down and the reason this is so powerful is then once you start understanding what your competitors are doing when they're changing their prices

when they're putting new images whatever else how that affects their organic ranking because your organic ranking is going to have a huge factor on how many organic sales you have for that particular product all right so the competitive intelligence section is a huge aspect of the keyword rank tracking and for everyone watching this right now i strongly recommend that you go in there you start tracking all your your competitors so you can see over time how they're trending for these different keywords but it can do a lot more than that so for this example let's now dig into one of our own products so instead of looking at our competitors instead we'll look at one of our own products so we can see that how it's changed over time to do that what i'll do is i'll click on add product again this time jungle scout already knows which products are mine and i can select them from this drop down list i'll just check my jungle sticks again it's going to run a reverse asin search

which populated the top 50 keywords for my particular asin for this example we'll not grab any additional keywords but if i wanted to do so i could select it from that keyword list that we created a little while ago or just enter some of my competitors and i'm going to go ahead and save that and now what it's going to do is it's going to show me all of the keywords that my product's ranking for and how that's changed over time so right here we're looking at the last 60 days it's automatically selected the top 10 keywords for me but i of course can change that from this list right here and i can now start to get a better big picture view of how my particular product has been performing what's cool about this is i have actually been making some changes i've actually been spending a little bit more on ppc starting about a month ago which is right in this area and what i can see is i can actually see that i have started ranking better

for some of these keywords i used to not be ranking as well before and that i've actually been able to maintain those positions a little bit over time so that's really cool now what's cool about being able to look at all of these keyword rank graphs over time all on the same graph is as i'm sure you're aware you know not all of your sales are going to come from any one keyword instead all of your sales are going to come from a whole bunch of different keywords so by viewing where like the the main weight of that or the main grouping of that is moving over time you can see as a whole whether or not you're trending up in the organic search results or trending down which of course is a really powerful thing but now let's talk about how can we use this data or information that we're given here to better optimize our listing now as you remember in the table here one of the columns was ease to rank i can also see whether or not i've used this exact keyword phrase

in the listing or not all right and then i can also see the search volume and of course where i'm ranking both in sponsored results as well as organic results all right so now what's cool is what i can do is i can go to these filters right here and i can say okay which ones are easy to rank but i'm not indexed for so that means that i am not showing up on the first five pages or so on amazon for either of these keywords so what that tells me is okay it's like both of these get some pretty decent search volume i'm not showing up at all on the first like five pages for these so what i should do is i should go back into my listing i should add those to my listing so that amazon's more likely to index me or rank me for those keywords in the organic search results so that's a really cool way that you can go about doing it another thing that i really like to do is i like to look at which which keywords i'm ranking well for

organically and whether or not my i'm also paying for uh sponsored rank so i'm not running a ton of ppc right now because i'm getting close to out of stock but what i like to do with this is i can see okay if i'm ranked like in the top few spots that's actually that's a good way to look at it if i'm ranked organically in the top few spots i probably don't also want to be spending a lot of money on my ppc for those right because if i'm already organically and getting that spot for free like in the number one or number two spot on amazon i probably don't also want to pay for those number one number two number three ppc spots otherwise it's just kind of like two of them right next to each other right which some people might argue that they want that additional real estate and that's fine me personally if i'm already in the top few spots organically i don't want to have to pay for those sponsored results so it looks like mine's overall solid because the only couple that i'm in the sponsored ranks

for the sponsor results here are the ones that i am not ranked on the first few pages organically so that checks out so what i recommend for you is to go in here enter your products take a look at them and then just look it's like okay are you are there a bunch of keywords that you're ranked number one organically for and ranked number one in the sponsor results for if so you might want to think about uh turning down the bids or maybe turning those off all the way um to save you some ppc money there the last thing i want to talk about as far as kind of your own products and how you can use this information to just make better decisions on amazon and help you win more on amazon is to track how changes that you're making to your listing affects your organic rank so we're actually releasing something super cool that will actually just be out in a few days but what it does is it creates little annotations down here on the timeline you can make

is amazon's recommended bid price so sometimes in reality it might be a little it's like a dynamic bidding system that's always changing so sometimes it might be a little bit higher or a little bit lower depending on how many other people are bidding on it that day or if people have ran out of budget or whatever else but that's what amazon recommends at your bid price which typically means that you'll rank in the top few spots for that particular keyword at that bid price um when using the keyword list builder it added a bunch of keywords that weren't selected such as toy big man etc why did it do this what's happening there is you need to check the little box that says like maintain phrases what's happening is it is grabbing each individual word and adding those as keywords instead of the keyword phrase so each of those that you just described right there those are one of the singular keywords in a phrase

lisa just says i love the new updates great i'm happy to hear it anthony asks it's a great feature greg thanks for listening to your customers what is a good volume number to look for to determine if my competitor is getting real sales from that keyword yeah good question as just like a a general rule of thumb you could probably expect if they're ranking like above the page fold so when you load an amazon page and they're ranking above that it's like you can see their product as a general rule of thumb of course this like varies by keyword and products and everything else but you can think of it at about 1 out of 100 searches they're going to get a sale now of course if they're ranked in the very top you're going to get a few more ranked at the very bottom a few less than that but if you're thinking just in general terms that's one way you could go about thinking about it um really the better way though if you're thinking about how to determine demand or gauge demand is going to be just based off of the the sales estimates that jungle scout gives you

so the a9 algorithm is obviously pretty sophisticated it takes a lot of different things into account like how people end up on your listing what keywords they come from the likelihood for them to convert from that keyword it's even looking at things like your ppc keywords and likelihood to convert there you know what category you're in what other similar products in your category are converting forward for so all this different type of stuff but the way that i would think about it would be you know not to think about how you can add less keywords to your listing just how you can add them to your listing but it'd still be really like readable uh to the consumer so typically the way to do that just put them kind of at the bottom of the description another way you can do it is like put them in the description but still do a plus content because that way it kind of like overrides or lays on top of your description of course you can always put them in the backend search terms as well all right take this one as our last question

it says how many competitors acens should would use to search for keywords that are ranking for would we choose filter that hasn't based on their sales or their search volume what you'll typically find is if you use a handful let's say three four five asins from that are all like the same product are all very relevant product what will happen is you'll see that they're all starting to rank for about the same keywords so sometimes i only use one or two competitors other times you can try three four or five it will automatically remove the duplicates for you so no real concerns there so i guess you don't ever have to hesitate to add
