In this video we're going to talk about different tools you can use for SEO so...
in this video we're going to talk about different tools you can use for SEO so search engine optimization SEO is the ability to boost your webpages ranking on Google so that you drive more traffic back to your website from Google search and there's different ways to optimize your pages to try to increase your rankings and get you more traffic so the first tool we're going to talk about is the Google search console this is a free tool that Google gives you you create an account you sign in basically with your Google account your Gmail and once you're logged in you can connect your website and it's going to give you different data about your website pages and how they're performing out on Google search so that's a way to analyze how your individual pages and blog articles are doing so that you can monitor and improve their rankings over time so first what we can do is come to the performance tab and we can see different search terms that were ranking for you can see how many and clicks how many
Impressions what our click-through rate is what our average position is ranking...
impressions what our click-through rate is what our average position is ranking currently for these different search terms we can also go into the pages tab and look at the different individual pages on a website to see how they are performing in terms of clicks impressions click-through rates and their average rank position on Google for all these different keywords that are ranking for so this is how you can monitor over time if you're making improvements to your website to that specific page and then you can watch and see if it moves up higher in the position rankings over time so Google search console is our first tool that's free to use and it's very insightful it's basically a way to analyze how you're actually doing already on the Google search engine that way you can make improvements using some of these other tools we're going to talk about and then watch if your click-through rates increase your impressions your clicks in your average position all improve the next tool we've got is the mobile-friendly test this is another tool by Google just go to search
google.com slash text slash mobile - friendly you can also just type in the mobile-friendly test into Google and this search result should come up number one and all you're going to do is enter the URL they have one of your website so fitness and tacos com you're gonna click enter or click test URL and it's going to go ahead and analyze to see if their web page is mobile-friendly nowadays most searches are done on mobile devices mobile phones are taking over and Google's putting a high priority on mobile so you want to make sure that your website is optimized for mobile devices and if you've got an old theme that your you used for years and years on your website you might want to consider updating to a new website theme that's more responsive and mobile-friendly if you find that you know you've got an old traditional static website that doesn't have the new mobile features that you need it to have all right so when it gets done analyzing it's going to tell you whether or not your page is mobile-friendly so in this case we checked out ok it's going to
Give you a little screenshot of how your website looks on mobile and then you can...
give you a little screenshot of how your website looks on mobile and then you can come down here and see some of the different suggestions by clicking into the view details all right our third tool here is the PageSpeed insights so another thing with SEO is you want to have a fast website your page load times need to be quick within a few seconds Google developed a tool to allow you to check your different URLs so you can type in different URLs and click analyze Google is going to scan the page quickly with this tool and then it's going to give you feedback on different things that you can do to improve your page and that's going to help boost your PageSpeed now a score between zero and 100 is given anything 90 to 100 is really good fifty to eighty nine is pretty average and anything below forty nine is not good so this test example that i typed in got a twenty seven which means that it got a very low score and they have it organized over here by mobile and desktop so you can see how it
Performs on each so on desktop it gets a good sixty-five score on mobile it gets...
performs on each so on desktop it gets a good sixty-five score on mobile it gets twenty seven so you can go back in and try to figure out how to fix things and how to my's your website to boost that score for both platforms so that you can get both of them scoring you know in the 80s it's hard to achieve a 90 score the more things you add to your website you know the more complicated it gets when I first started this website out of the box and I didn't have a website theme I didn't have any content on my website yet I ran the test and this actually scored a 99 or a hundred which is what you would expect for a brand new website with nothing on it but over time when you start making changes to your website settings adding website themes adding different content plugins URLs things like that then it starts slowing down your website and you know the score starts to go down so we're gonna scroll down here and all you're gonna see is all the you know the different suggestions they have for you as far as what's causing that low score so that you have these opportunities that are
Calling them that you can go in and try to fix things to speed the website up so...
calling them that you can go in and try to fix things to speed the website up so that's what you do with this tool it doesn't actually give you a load time speed although they do have some lab data here showing you how long it took to get the first content full paint the speed index the time to interactive so it took 10 seconds before somebody would be able to interact with my site meaning they could scroll up and down my website but they're first gonna start seeing stuff up here on the page you know in the first five to six seconds now that's pretty slow you want this to be one to two seconds here and you want them to be able to start interacting probably within two to three seconds so this is a slow score and out using it as an example I would go in and you know update all the different texts below that it's going to give me to try to boost my speed and boost my score all right the next tool we're going to talk about is buzz sumo so but sumo does a content analyzer it lets you find out what types of content is performing best so you can look up competitor URLs and
See what articles on their website have performed best on social media in terms...
see what articles on their website have performed best on social media in terms of getting the most engagement and shares you can also just type in keywords as well so if I was a real estate agent I could type in home buying tips to try to get ideas of viral articles that do well so that I could try to drive more traffic and more leads to my real estate website so in this case home buying tips you can see some of the top performing articles in the past year if you have that set to the filter date you can set the past two years five years or a shorter time period so within the past year this home buying myths and tips for shopping around for mortgages and has gotten sixteen thousand engagements on Facebook and then very few engagements on these other platforms so it's got the overall total most engagements overall which is why it's ranking number one but you can see some of these other results how they perform you can see which networks they perform best on and then you can click into these to get new ideas for what kinds of content you can create and
That's one way to also boost your SEO when you get lots of social media shares...
that's one way to also boost your SEO when you get lots of social media shares that gets lots of people then clicking through to your website from social media and that can help boost some of your on-page factors that Google is going to look at you know like how long people are spending on your website how quickly you know they're clicking that back button or they're bouncing off your website are they staying on your website looking over other topics other articles you know Google is going to look at all these different metrics on page to see how users are experiencing your website and that can get started by getting social media shares and getting social media traffic and that can eventually help you bump your way up the Google rankings as well with search engine optimization alright our next tool is the Yoast SEO and it's a plugin for WordPress website so if you have a WordPress website you can go into the plugins tab go to add new and you can find the Yoast SEO plugin or you can download it direct from their website and what it does is it adds a little and analyzer tool to your blog post page so
When you create a new blog post you scroll down to the bottom of the blog...
when you create a new blog post you scroll down to the bottom of the blog post and you're going to see the little analysis box where you're going to type in a keyword or keyphrase and then it's going to scan your article for that keyword or keyphrase and it's going to give you different optimization tips things that you can do to improve it for the search engine so it's going to let you know that you've optimized your title tags your description you're gonna look at keyword density how many times that keyword was in your article whether it was at the beginning of the article did you sprinkle it into different headings and subheadings in your article in your image tags so it's going to look at all those factors as well as additional factors that you need for SEO and then it's going to give you feedback of a green eye red or an orange circle so that you know which things you are already optimized for and what things you need to continue optimizing for there's also some additional settings inside the plugin like it's going to give you a site map so whenever you publish new content you automatically get that indexed into the site map so that Google can find it quickly and they
Can index your article and hopefully you can start ranking quicker I can check...
can index your article and hopefully you can start ranking quicker I can check for duplicate content on your website and then there's all kinds of other technical stuff with HT access files permalink URLs robots.txt that you can get more into if you want to get advanced with it so overall it's a very helpful plugin it's like the number one most downloaded plug-in on WordPress and everybody should be using it if you're trying to improve your SEO our next tool is the Ebers suggest keyword tool from neil patel so you can enter a domain name in this tool like a competitor's domain name to see what different keywords they currently write for this could give you an idea of keywords you could go after as well to try to outrank and beat your competitors or you can type in individual keywords to try to get more keyword ideas so again if I was typing in home buying tips as a starter keyword then we could get some additional keyword ideas it's also going to show you keyword competition so that
You can see different keywords how competitive they already are on Google...
you can see different keywords how competitive they already are on Google so you can get an idea you know if you're gonna try to rank for it whether it's actually worth pursuing or if you should go after you know a keyword that's got less competition you can see search volume SEO difficulty pay difficulty if you're going to try to run pay ads and try to beat out competitors for as far as paying for clicks so you can see the current estimated cost per click if you're going to run Google ads so every time you ran this this keyword as an advertisement you drank number one and the Google ads and you'd be paying 344 for each click you can see over time the different volume how each time you know rolls around in january/february the searchers start to go up people start to get ready to buy a home in the spring you can see down in the fall searches start to die off as people focus on you know ending the year and the holidays that happen at the end of the year so that's another cool thing about this tool it gives you some ideas down here as well as these search results so you can quickly scan
All the different websites that are currently showing up for this keyword...
all the different websites that are currently showing up for this keyword and you can kind of get some data how many estimated visits and backlinks they have but some of this data might not be you know the most accurate right now there's a more advanced tool called EHRs that really dives deeper into this data as far as the search results go or you can go out onto Google yourself and type in the same keyword like if we wanted to come out here and you know check how it's doing we could type in home buying tips and then you're going to get a list of all the different websites that are currently ranking for that keyword and we can see you know different data around those domains down here in this little box here so that's where we're going to get into another tool called keywords everywhere so when you install keywords everywhere it's a Google Chrome extension so you can install it for you know Chrome or you can install it for Firefox but it's gonna put it up here in your little toolbar so it's the little case symbol
Right here and then when we're out here on Google using Google you can see right...
right here and then when we're out here on Google using Google you can see right here that it installs this stuff in my sidebar so we can see related keywords so whenever you type in a keyword into Google that you want to look at the search results for to see what websites are currently ranking for it you also can scroll over here to the sidebar and you can get a dish no keyword ideas so you might already be ranking for homebody tips but now you want to try to think up some new keywords to add to your article to make it more in-depth and try to write for additional keyword strings so you have first-time homebuyer programs first-time homebuyer guy first-time homebuyer 101 you can also use the year like 2019 and it also gives you estimating volume cost per click if you're gonna try to run Google ads for a keyword if you're trying to rank organically for it this is how many searches it gets a month so if you were to rank first for first-time homebuyer programs you could potentially get thirty three thousand one hundred visits a month from that keyword now normally
When somebody types in a phrase they're gonna look at multiple results...
when somebody types in a phrase they're gonna look at multiple results in the search engine so the number one ranking position might get about 50 percent of the clicks and then the other 50 percent of the clicks will get dispersed throughout the run the other rankings in the search results so you're not going to get all of those searches those thirty one thousand hits by being number one but you could get a majority of them if you have a very good title tag up here that somebody's going to click on and entices them you know curiosity to make them want to click on your search result over somebody else's a few other things that can do in addition to just playing this information out here is you can actually click on the little button up here in the browser and then it's going to let you import keywords so if you have different keyword lists that you want to import you can create my keyword list you can analyze a specific page you might be on so if you're on a competitor website and then you can also click on stats to get a bunch of stats around a specific page or a specific keyword so those are some additional features you
Can do with that extension it's a very helpful extension for when you're just...
can do with that extension it's a very helpful extension for when you're just out using Google as a tool itself to do some keyword research and it can give you some quick ideas our next SEO tool we want to talk about is another page speed test tool so I like to use the Pingdom tool so you just go to tools Kingdom com you can run a test by typing in any URL on your website that's your homepage your about page or maybe you've got a blog post that you're gonna drive a lot of traffic to you want to test the speed of it you type in the URL you pick where you want to test from you click start text it's gonna scan and analyze the page and then it's going to show that your results so my webpage Fitness in tacos calm the homepage we tested it it gave us a performance graded of an 82 showing us that our page size is 1.3 megabytes and that page size took 856 milliseconds to load so that means it took less than one second to load my page so my webpage is really fast now a few things you're gonna think
About right away number one we ran the same website earlier on the Google...
about right away number one we ran the same website earlier on the Google PageSpeed test and it scored a low 27 score for mobile and has scored an average 65 score for desktop and then we come over here and ping them and they're giving me a high 82 grade and saying my website loaded fast in under one second so anytime you run these tests what I like to do is run them a couple of times because sometimes the test can be kind of faulty so if you run both tests again you might get different results the second time but if you run the test a few times for that page and you see consistent results showing up like if we reran this test here on Pingdom when they get done if they show us that it still loves and like under a second or around one second then you can consider that's pretty consistent and then that's probably the real results so this time around it did a 780 milliseconds so once again my webpage is running pretty quickly we can also come back over here to the Google tool it's still not done yet but if it still gave us a low 27 score or a low 65 score in
This case it went down one now so 26 desktop went down to 56 so this proves...
this case it went down one now so 26 desktop went down to 56 so this proves my point of why running it multiple times you're going to get different results each time even though nothing on the page has changed since the last time we ran it so that's why I always run the test a couple of times because sometimes the first time whatever results you get might not be the most accurate but if you run it a few times you're going to be able to see you know okay that's you know consistent additionally on that note those two tools are going to give totally different results every time you try them so you're gonna have to pick one tool that you real want to focus on whatever your score is you can go and try to make improvements and just focus on improving your score for that tool because both tools are gonna you know be different so you're gonna need to mainly just work with one of them when you're trying to make fixes so it's going to give me suggestions just like the Google tool of different things I can do on my website to try to improve my score we also get a little waterfall if we want to see how quickly different things were loading so right
Here it shows that you know first it had to change a redirect from HTTP to HTTPS...
here it shows that you know first it had to change a redirect from HTTP to HTTPS so that took point one seconds and then after that they started loading some different plugins then it started loading some different scripts so you know see for example if I turn some of these plugins off my website would probably start loading faster so you can kind of see the order that everything starts loading on your website so this loads first then this stuff starts loading and then we can scroll over here and see where everything else starts loading so it's kind of like a waterfall chart that shows you the different orders you can also see things on your website by content size so images make up the bulk of our 1.3 megabyte page size and we've got some scripts and fonts some CSS some HTML and then the redirect down here if you want to see content size by domain we can see our main domain is the most of the content but we also link out to some external things that can help slow down on our website as well like cookie I linked out to for analytics I linked out to Google Analytics we also link out to Google
Fonts so you can use this tool basically to get a good idea of what's causing...
Fonts so you can use this tool basically to get a good idea of what's causing your website to go slow you can make fixes speed up your website our next tool is SEO quick it's kind of similar to the previous tool we talked about keywords everywhere SEO quake is another browser extension you can do for Google Chrome Firefox once you've got you can click on this little icon up here on any website you're on it'll pull open a bunch of data where you can see different key word densities different links backlinks referring domains so it gives a lot of insight on whatever website you're on when you're out on Google you also get some information so just like how keywords everywhere showed me different weird ideas with their volumes over here what people are also searching for over here with SEO quick it installs right here you can see the little SEO quake symbol underneath the search bar I can quickly get volume cost per click and competition scores for the keyword that I'm typing in so that's another way to quickly check search volume also when we
Start typing in and we want additional suggestions Google's going to drop down...
start typing in and we want additional suggestions Google's going to drop down and give us a bunch of new keyword ideas that we could keep typing in here to make our keyword string longer and then we can look next to them and the SEO quake tool when turned on will give suggestive keyword volumes and cost for clicks and competition scores for those additional keywords so we can kind of use Google as a tool to try to look up different keyword ideas to get different keyword suggestions and then we can see the search volumes next to them by having the SEO quake tool turned on so again it's another helpful tool to have in addition to the keywords everywhere tool alright our last tool today to help you with SEO is the keyword finder it's another keyword research tool this one is similar to the uber suggest tool that we talked about earlier where you type in a keyword and you can get volume difference SEO scores so when we type in a keyword you know we can scroll down and it's going to show us a bunch of different keyword ideas we can build lists by check marking or starring our
Favorite keywords we can create our own custom lists that we can save we can...
favorite keywords we can create our own custom lists that we can save we can organize keywords by search now my cost per click pay-per-click competition keyword difficulty when you click on a keyword it's going to give you the search overview so you can see the search engine ranking performance the SERP overview and it's going to show what websites are currently ranking one through ten for that specific keyword it gives you a domain score you know a page ranking score you can see different links they have pointing to that specific page and then you can see some social metrics as well and then it's going to give sort of like a difficulty score for trying to outrank those different websites so it's very helpful way to quickly get data if you're looking for a keyword volume if you try to see how many searches it gets and you can click on it and look at the competition as well to see if it's a competitive keyword or you can even have a chance of ranking for it so overall those are the different tools today we covered the Google search console tool it'll happen if you want to analyze how your website is currently doing in the search rankings you can
Look at your clicks your impressions your click-through rates your position...
